About Me

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Since choosing to focus on Wellness during graduate school, my passion and determination for increasing my own health has increased dramatically. This blog is all about my journey to wellness in my life! Welcome!

Here’re a few things about me:

1. I’m a Mental Health Counselor: I always knew I wanted to work with people, and from very young I wanted to be a counselor. From high school on I kept that as my focus, and worked hard every day through college and grad school to learn and become the best counselor I could be. I absolutely love being a counselor and can’t imagine not getting to do my job.

2. I’m lactose intolerant, and just became this way as an adult. Part of my journey towards health has been to figure out how to adapt my nutrition and recipes when I had to cut dairy mostly out of my diet.

3. I have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Most people have never heard of this before, so I plan on discussing this here at some point. In fact, many people in my life don’t even know that I have this, and I refuse to be defined by a diagnosis. I’m here to prove that people can still be healthy even when it can be difficult to do so.

4. Most of my life I’ve hated running, but have recently started to like it quite a bit. I used to be willing to do ANYTHING to avoid running. Last year I started having dreams where I would be running, and I loved the feeling in my dreams. One day I decided enough was enough, and went out for a run. It’s been a slow process (due to the POTS), but I’m finally seeing progress & I now love going out for runs!

5. I’ve spent most of my life avoiding cooking, but am now trying to get better at it. I may not be fantastic at it yet (or ever), but I will not give up in the kitchen. I’m experiencing far less ruined meals, so I think that’s a good sign!

6. I’m all Type-A. Give me a list or specific instructions, and I’m good to go. I like to organize, and get pretty excited when friends ask me to come over and organize something!

7. These are some of my favorite things: Dancing, Coffee, GREECE, mediterranean foods, traveling, experiencing new cultures, exercising, spending time with the people I love, & pushing myself towards new goals

  1. I love your list-format for about me! Haha, totally fall into “type A” sort of personality, and I can relate! I also didn’t start running until later on in my life, but I’m starting to really enjoy it!

  2. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I appreciate it — and kudos to you for being a counselor. Your role is so important.

  3. Really nice getting to “know” you on here! Sometimes the SPAs are so big I miss getting to hear peoples stories. I love that you’re a counselor! That is my dream too, but there have been a few twists along the way to getting my Masters degree. I’m planning on starting next fall. :)

    • I agree! It can be hard to keep people straight too! I love that you want to be a counselor too! Let me know if you have any questions that I might be able to answer. It’s a great field!

  4. I totally relate with wanting to become a runner starting in dreams of running. Love those dreams and now I love running too!

  5. Cute blog :) That’s an interesting way to start running :P I don’t actually remember how I got into it initially… I think it’s something I’ve liked in my childhood and it just stayed with me. I have never heard of POTS but I’m really curious to learn more :)

  6. I think it’s so awesome that you’re a mental health counselor. That’s definitely something I’ve considered for a career. I love to learn about psychology. That’s so awesome that you’ve taken up running, and props to you for dealing with such a obstacle!

  7. I love the fact that you are a Mental Health counselor and love your work! Good luck with all of your running and all the best with your health! – Simone

Where did you buy your sparkle skirt from?
    It is super cute!!

  9. Wow! I used to hate running too and picked it up after I started having running dreams too! I didn’t know it’d happened to anyone else! How exciting! Looking forward to perusing your blog more and seeing you on my Reader in the future. :)

    • No way! I haven’t heard of someone else starting running because of a dream either. So funny:) Thanks for stopping by and saying hello!

  10. Fellow therapist, runner and blogger here (definitely in that order). What a great combination of topics, I’ll be sure to pop by again soon. Today I’m having trouble concentrating on what you’ve written because all I can think about is how much I want that running skirt.

    • Thanks for saying hello! I really love my running skirt, and would wear it to work if it was appropriate! I love it, and the extra sparkle doesn’t hurt :)
